    Because "a website" can mean a one-page profile or a full online store, and quoting blind is how agencies get burnt. The unhelpful result is that Malaysian business owners have no idea whether RM1,500 is a bargain or a rip-off.

    So here is the honest version.

    The costs people forget

    • Domain — roughly RM50–120 a year depending on the extension.
    • Hosting — RM300–1,200 a year. Cheap hosting means a slow site, and a slow site ranks worse.
    • SSL certificate — should be free and included. If someone bills you for basic SSL, ask why.
    • Maintenance — WordPress needs updating. Neglected sites get hacked.
    • Content — writing and photography are real work. If you cannot supply them, budget for them.

    Questions worth asking any agency

    1. Do I own the site outright? Some builders lock you into a monthly platform fee forever. If you stop paying, the site disappears.
    2. Can I see it before I pay? We build the demo first. Not everyone does, but it is a fair thing to ask.
    3. Who owns the domain? It should be registered in your name, not the agency's. This one catches people out badly.
    4. What happens after launch? Find out what support costs before you need it.
    5. Will it actually rank? A beautiful site nobody finds is an expensive business card. Ask what SEO foundation is included.

    A website is not the same as customers

    Worth saying plainly: building the site is step one. Getting Google to send people to it is a separate, ongoing job. If your budget only stretches to one of the two, a simpler site with real SEO behind it will usually outperform a beautiful site nobody ever sees.
